Race Relations and Muslims

It is odd, to say the least, that after more than fourteen centuries there remain some people who claim to be Muslims but who still have not internalised the universal values of Islam. Odder still that there remain those who on the one hand can embrace Islam's universal claim of brotherhood (and sisterhood), but still cannot get around to understanding the simple idea that Islam and racism do not mix.

Girl kills herself over atom-smashing Big Bang fears

A teenage girl in India has reportedly killed herself out of fear the world was about to end because of the atom-smashing "Big Bang" experiment" conducted in Europe.

The 16-year old girl, from the state of Madhya Pradesh, died after drinking pesticide, The Daily Mail said.Her father, identified on local television as Biharilal, said his daughter, Chayya, had killed herself after watching doomsday predictions about the Large Hadron Collider on Indian news programmes.

"In the past two days, Chayya had asked me and other relatives about the world coming to an end on September 10," Biharilal said."We tried to divert her attention and told her she should not worry about such things, but to no avail."

A physics experiment that could change the way we view ourselves begins today in Geneva with some opponents believing it could bring the world to an end.

Professor Taylor says the experiment's opponents are completely misguided in their stance.

''One of the things we are trying to do is create mini-black holes which scientifically would be a magnificent thing and tell us we don't live in three dimensions, but that we live in nine or 10 dimensions,'' Professor Taylor said.

''As soon as you say there is the possibility of creating black holes, you have people saying we are going to be swallowed up by black holes.

''That's where the furore has come and it's completely misguided.''
